Behind the Songs: Turn

Song stories & lyrics from the album Fire in the Night: Turn

Over the coming days I'll be posting the stories behind the songs from Fire In The Night. First up is Turn.

This song speaks of the simple message of the goodness of the Lord toward me, drawing on familiar lyrics of old hymns (Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus and Amazing Grace). Turn came during a devotional worship time before the Lord while I was offering up spontaneous songs of gratitude for the salvation and deliverance of my soul.

Turn
The Lord has been so good to me
Death no more entangles me
And with a grateful heart I live to sing … You
I sing for joy, my spirit free
Soaring as on eagle’s wings
Eyes wide open, I just want to see … You

So I turn my eyes upon Jesus
Looking full at His wonderful face
And the things of earth are growing strangely dim
In the light of glory and grace

I once was blind but now I see
I once was bound but now I’m free
No longer dead, alive I live to breathe … You

I sing this song my spirit free
I sing this song for all to see
This joy I’ve found, all praise belongs to You

So I turn my eyes upon Jesus
Looking full at His wonderful face
And the things of earth are growing strangely dim
In the light of glory and grace
