Holy Spirit Break Out

Again, this whole record I’ve been searching out the heart of God regarding the scripture where it talks about the “true worshipers worshiping the Lord in Spirit and in Truth.” I want to press in to living a lifestyle of worship that is the fruit of knowing without-a-doubt who I am in the Lord. As a worship leader, my heart is to encourage others in that reality and lifestyle - living and worshiping in the full knowledge of who we are in Christ and what he has done for us at the deepest level. In this song particularly, I wanted to challenge our tendency to ‘ask’ for things that have already been given to us as believers in Christ. That meant declaring some things by faith that we usually find ourselves asking repeatedly for. We do an awful lot of asking, but I have found that we do a lot less ‘declaring’ in the authority given to us in Jesus: “our chains ARE broken! our hearts ARE free! You’ve given us the VICTORY!” (lyrics in this song). That subtle change in authority can affect how we view our own hearts and freedom. It can affect how we live.

Musically speaking, the driving nature of this song is meant to help break us out of our comfort zones. How many times have you taken a step of faith / challenged your comfort zone to break out in dance in your worship or intercession? Or to sing in the spirit? The near EDM groove throughout this song lends itself to dancing and challenging our typical (or comfortable!) posture in worship. Break us out, Lord! And bring us fully in to the authority that is ours in Jesus!

“Jesus came to set the captives free, to make us fully alive to worship him in spirit and in truth. Having been cleansed by His blood, we are made holy and free to enter into the fullness of His presence. Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom!” 2Corinthians 3:17

Holy Spirit Break Out
Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom
Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom

Our chains are broken
Our hearts are free
He’s given us
The victory

He died that we might live
He died that we might live

Oh that You would rend the heavens and come down
Oh that You would rend the heavens and come down

Holy Spirit break out
Holy Spirit break out
Holy Spirit break out
