is a singer / songwriter and worship leader who is on staff at Christ Community Church
in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she has been leading worship for ten years. Julie has a strong desire to sharpen the focus of the worshiping church through her songs and music. She also has a deep desire, through her music and worship leading, to bring people into encounters with Jesus and a deeper revelation of His glory and presence. Because of this, she gives much of her time to equipping the next generation of musicians, singers, worship leaders, and songwriters. Julie is also on the board of the Charlottesville Worship Collective
, which exists to promote unity in the body of Christ through worship in the city of Charlottesville.
Julie has been in music all her life, starting piano lessons at a young age, playing multiple instruments through school, and attending college on a piano performance scholarship. She has been active in many musical genres over her history, from formal classical to contemporary pop. Even with this well-rounded musical background, she didn’t start writing her own material until 2003 when a friend asked for help finishing a song. Since that time she has been writing nonstop and has recorded and released four studio albums.
Julie’s newest studio project, You Are My Joy
, was created through a Kickstarter campaign
she ran to support her previous release. The crowdfunding event earned double its expected amount, which resulted in Julie offering a second album project to all her supporters. Thus, the new project was put in motion! It is comprised of songs from her last year of songwriting. Julie’s devotional life lends itself to spending long hours in the Word and in worship, where many of her ideas are birthed. A few of the songs were written for corporate worship (or a corporate expression), and most were influenced directly from scripture she was studying this last year (Philippians 2, Psalm 116:7, Song of Solomon 8:5-7, Romans 8:35-39, Revelation 1:18, Hebrews 10:19, Psalm 71, John 4:23-24). Her heart posture while writing this album is illustrated best by the verse from Song of Solomon 8:5: “… who is this coming up from the desert leaning on her beloved?” You Are My Joy
is available on CD, via all online stores including iTunes and Amazon, and on all streaming services. You Are My Joy
was produced by multi-platinum music producer Kevin McNoldy
, who in addition to collaborating with Julie on her four album releases, has worked with Dave Matthews, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Backstreet Boys, and many more. The songs featured on the album run the complete gamut of musical expression, from the Joni Mitchell-esque title track to the dark film score tones of the lead single, Seal
Julie’s new CD is available on her website
, as well as at her live performances. Julie’s three other studio albums are also available: Out Of The Deep (her debut, featuring twelve songs that chronicle Julie's journey from "the dark night of her soul" back into God's embrace)
, Awaken Me (an intimate piano-vocal praise / worship CD that showcases Julie's writing in its most raw form)
, and Fire In The Night (Julie's third project, a chronicle of God leading her to healing through her songwriting process)
